Something I just learnt: Marvin Gaye was one of the backing singers on Chuck Berry's "Almost Grown" and "Back In The USA".

While researching the story of The Vanilla Fudge track The Spell That Came After, written by Sandy Hurvitz/Essra Mohwak, but erroneously credited to her then-boyfriend Cal Schenkel (the Zappa cover artist), I've learnt that the spoken word section in the wonderfully OTT Vanilla Fudge version of Season Of The Witch was lifted from another Hurvitz/Mohawk song recorded by the Shangri-Las. A big aha moment for me!

It appears Roxy's US tour is fast falling apart. Optimistically overbooked in very large arenas, now bumping into smaller places or the amount of seating being reduced, but not the price...yet.

When I saw them 20-odd years ago, the top ticket price was $85, which was as much as I'd ever paid for a ticket (I was pretty close to the front - my store was a Ticketmaster outlet at the time). Just checked, and the top price for their local stop is $365 per ticket! I know, inflation blah blah, the BIG FIVE-OH blah blah, but jeezus! I'll stick with my memories, thanks.

Ponce music, not as popular as it used to be.

I'd bet, being in the US and them being elderly, that they're focusing on loungey Avalon type music at the expense of the early, better material.

FWIW, the early albums were well represented when I saw them. They opened with "Re-Make/Re-Model" and closed with "For Your Pleasure".

Avalon was represented by 4 songs out of 22.

There's a class show on BBC 4 right now, "totally british: 70's rock and/or roll.
Haven't heard of many of these bands, and some of the stories seem to make them sound like 'nearly' bands, or musicians that were really friendly with bigger bands but carved out a respectable career under the radar. For example, who the fuck were humble pie or babe ruth?
