There's a class how on BBC 4 right now, "totally british: 70's rock and/or roll. Haven't heard of many of these bands, and some of the stories seem to make them sound like 'nearly' bands, or musicians that were really friendly with bigger bands but carved out a respectable career under the radar. For example, who the fuck were humble pie or babe ruth? Humble Pie were huge in the first half of the 70s, especially in the US which they concentrated on. Lead by Steve Marriot of The Small Faces. Babe Ruth are much more obscure so not really comparable. I know them for "The Mexican", which was big in the early NY disco scene, but I'm sure Charlie or Gav can tell you more.

Never knowingly heard them. I do know that Bernie Marsden (subsequently of Whitesnake) was a latter-day member. Over to you, Gav...

Ugh, this is very similar to when Jimmy found out The Cult was named the Southern Death Cult and that there was a band also called the Blue Oyster Cult. What does one do with that knowledge, just go back to not knowing?
It's better to just have Oasis, Radiohead, and Smashing Pumpkins be the best bands ever on this flat earth of ours, why add distractions? If it didn't happen when you were conscious it didn't happen.

I'm not that interested, there's the interwebs if I was. Chat about being a drama queen. Relax yourself and the burden all this knowledge must be to you. Fucking hell.

Most of the singers, female and male, seem to be trying to sound like Joe Cocker, even in their movements. It's weird.

Or Joe is trying to be like them, as some may predate him, and all of them were trying to sound like soul singers.

1. She looks good for a woman in her Sixties 2. The presenter's spiel/context was risible.

all the trepidation regarding Spector was genuinely fomented and anyone wise enough to steer clear did.
I did not and was on several occasions as his "guest" at his La Collina BH gated guarded and dogged manse held captive, until one was "given leave" at 4 or 5 AM. long after one hoped to be freed. guards guns and dogs but a wonderful vintage jukebox with all of HIS 45's in it LOL
he was the wittiest most charming schizophrenic raconteur I have or ever will meet or know. I am even in the very exclusive club of folks that have had their life threatened by him. I do believe he "meant it" at the time. scary little dude, he was. (rkt88, sh.tv; father worked a&r for Columbia Records out of LA during the 60s)

I know a guy now who occasionally alludes to me out of the blue, and somebody else had to point out to me that this guy wished he had my life. “Hey, Tork over there knows all about this, don’t ya, Tork?” at the top of his lungs, across a room sometimes. “What’s going on here?” Somebody had to point out that the guy wished he had my life and not his. Do you remember a group called the Walker Brothers? They were bitter about the Monkees. They had one or two hits, and that was about it. And they were virulent. “Any four slobs off any street in America could have done better,” and I’d say, “OK, whatever you say.” Peter Tork, Rolling Stone

I'd never heard of this!
(the story's rather better than the song)
