I bet it was the noise of him walking that got the attention with all that corduroy. Zveep zveep zveep.

94 quid isn't bad at all. I'd prefer a lighter colour, THO It's a fine line Johnny between style and looking like a seventies geography teacher. I think Tobes picked the right shade.

I had a fashionista woman (you know the ones - those THICK rimmed glasses and red gloss lipstick) come up and say in Liberty "I LOVE YOUR COLOURS" The russet red and turquoise blue works a treat - really brings both colours out. A light green is effective too.

Trying to clear out my mum's house and throwing a lot of stuff in the skip. In a bag of old books I discovered 'Up West' by Ray's late wife Pip. A very pleasant discovery and it was, of course, saved from the skip and will be read over the next week.

Trying to clear out my mum's house and throwing a lot of stuff in the skip. In a bag of old books I discovered 'Up West' by Ray's late wife Pip. A very pleasant discovery and it was, of course, saved from the skip and will be read over the next week. Some great characters in there. Of all the non-fiction books I contributed to, that's the only one I'm actually proud of. By the end of it, I thought I knew more about growing up in Soho and Covent Garden in the ’40s and ’50s than anyone who hadn't actually been there.
Doing the interviews for the book was really enjoyable, not a chore at all. Met some really interesting characters, and discovered I was actually quite good at interviewing people, drawing them out, listening to what they said, prompting them. Chip couldn't really do it: her health made it really difficult for her to travel to meet people, and when she did, she tended to hog the conversation.

I'm sure I'll have a few questions on some of these characters once I finish it.

In the Cotswolds for a week looking after a Scottie. Going to Laurie Lee's old pub for Easter Sunday lunch- hoping they have Hoggett.

It was there earlier today. Not sure if it's just an 'update', or if it was removed after complaints. Anyway it's the top of King Street, the main pedestrianised street in town (which was, in fact, a fine shopping street until the 90s - but I suppose this is what has happened everywhere)
