Always thought this was one of the best singles to come out of Eire.

IMO, the best thing ever done in Spain - 1968

Some minimalism from the early eighties downtown scene in NY.

Very much of its time (1979) but I do enjoy this cover from this Dutch band

Never understood why more Dutch artists did not try to break the US, they always had a great rock and roll sensibility. It is amazing how much Herman Brood still turns up in the bins. At the time, his US foray was seen as risky, but he tapped into a whole undercurrent of those seeking a straight ahead rock n roll Bowie/glam sound.

Thanks for this, I did not know of this album. I NEED it. Apparently Duke and Mingus hated each other but it didn't effect the music as you can hear.

Mingus WORSHIPED Ellington - Duke was easily his greatest influence as a composer. I'm not so clear on what Ellington really thought of Mingus. An interviewer once said something to him about Mingus being a composer that was carrying on his tradition (or something like that), and Duke replied "Well, that's what he says."

The b-side to "You Really Got Me" - and while not as "it's a whole new thing!" exciting as the topside, it's an exhilarating blast of rock & roll all the same, with Ray sounding even more coolly confident, Pete Quaife kicking ass, and drummer Bobby Graham again proving that "session musician" doesn't always mean "hack."

Wasn't Mingus very briefly in Ellington's orchestra, getting canned over some outburst or something?
