In the 1920s, my mother was growing up in a tiny two-up, two-down terrace house in Milton Road, Tottenham. Just around the corner, facing on to West Green Road, was a terrace of much grander houses, which had long gardens that stretched the length of Milton Road, opposite my mothers house. One of these houses, perhaps the one on the corner itself, was owned by Harry Champion. At least once (my mother had a photo to prove it, which I must try to dig out and digitize), he paid for all the children in the street, along with their mothers, to go on a charabanc outing to the seaside for a day. While I was checking his wiki entry for something else, I found this paragraph, which goes some way to explaining this bit of family folklore. 'Champion's main business interest away from the stage included the ownership of a successful business hiring out horse drawn Broughams to fellow performers. This evolved into a coach business in the late 1920s which became known as Horseshoe Coaches (WH Crump and sons). The business was later sold and renamed North London Coaches. Upon the outbreak of World War II, the fleet of vehicles was commandeered for the War Effort by the British government."
I didn't know he did the original of this, which I first heard from Joe Brown.

Titled "Fe Fi Fo Fum" on early promo pressings - I prefer that title for it, actually.
This was an interesting band that recorded a handful of singles and an LP between '66 and '68. As far as I can tell only three of their songs (including their unrepresentative novelty almost-hit "That Acapulco Gold", and not including this) have ever been legitimately reissued. Some cool label oughta do something about that.

That’s good! Out of curiosity I looked up the producer, Frank Slay, on google and found out he also produced ‘Incense & Peppermints’ by the SAC.

It's 'only ' a jam, but I just sat and listened to it for the first time and really enjoyed it. The 18 minutes flew by. Gets some extraordinary sounds out of his guitar.
