Well, they had to carry that load, a very heavy load, as well as readjust to society, find jobs, support their families etc. Maybe some things if you talk about them too much they have the potential to pull you under so you avoid it. We're talking about war after all so talking about something which few people have any experience of is not easy. Maybe not talking was a self preservation thing to a degree, a way of coping, of "functioning", of carrying on as normal even if there was a mental and physical price to pay.
But, yeah, talking helps of course too and there is always a balance but....some men are not programmed that way and it's not necessarily a cultural thing, it's a bloke thing. My old man is like that. In some ways I admire his quietness and stoicism.

Aye my aul boy was the same. I think we said we loved each other once as adults. It was comical when it happened, but i knew he meant it.

From anecdotal evidence I'd say that women are generally more likely to earn more than men in the workplace - yes, men earn more in finance and as CEOs but bing bong bing... From anecdotal evidence wheatgrass is tastier than cheese on toast

From anecdotal evidence wheatgrass is tastier than cheese on toast Have you explored the data around the gender pay gap? I've seen more women coming around to agreeing and accepting why men earn more in general. The thing of viewing it as a whole is just counter productive, you need to look per industry. That doesn't mean it doesn't happen, but just maybe not as much as people think.

Most of them guys were troubled and drank too much. If they opened up it might have helped them a little. While i'm not paying too much attention, everyone and their dog has "a day" now, but for the men's day it seems to be (even before men's day) women wanted men to open up more, on men's day, men try to have serious conversations about mental health and checking your balls for lumps once a month. They get ridiculed by some women and men for having a day to promote men to open up, because all men are bastards and have too much 'power'. It's a vicious circle. Defeated the Nazi's though.

From anecdotal evidence I'd say that women are generally more likely to earn more than men in the workplace - yes, men earn more in finance and as CEOs but women are less likely to have issues like alcoholism for example. Most women I know are more efficacious and effective in the workplace. They are more career-driven now because, well, they have to be by the time they hit 30 when they are then going to have to leave the workplace temporarily. When someone starts a sentence with, "From anecdotal evidence. . ." I almost always stop paying attention. The rest of the phrase is BS based on almost all research, but I believe that men have more issues with alcohol. But women with opoid addiction. For US stats look here. You should cite some established research every once in awhile. www.drugabuse.gov/publications/research-reports/substance-use-in-women/sex-gender-differences-in-substance-useWomen working and affecting society is certainly true in Japan, and I would assume it somehow affects other countries and societies too, but again, you really should attach some research to your statements. www.brookings.edu/research/lessons-from-the-rise-of-womens-labor-force-participation-in-japan/

Here's an interesting series of tweets concerning the 7% pay gap for Uber drivers in the US that is explained by a number of factors.

Increasingly we expect men to be more female as if this is the desirable/preferred route. We expect men to reveal their feelings more, to be in touch with their sensitive side etc. Masculinity has been labelled "toxic" for years now, in "white men" are the oppressors and so on. Masculinity hasn't been labeled "toxic." Shitty behavior undertaken by men has been labeled as "toxic masculinity," and it is very much a real thing, and very much a thing that needs to be stopped.

Well that's on them as individuals. We don't pejoratively talk about women behaving in shitty ways as if this is related to their femininity. The inference here is that masculinity is "toxic" somehow at a very basic level and needs to be changed under the auspices of women, of course, rather than seeing people as individuals and basically arseholes behaving like arseholes.
