He wrote greater songs, but 'Cold Turkey' has risen into my top 10 Lennon songs through its sheer uncompromising feel and power. Feck me, those guitars are vicious, the drum sound is almost claustrophobic, and the cries at the end are brutal. That kind of life-through-art honesty is bloody confronting and I'm not always in the mood for this side of Lennon, but it has taken a special place in his canon for me.
