i always found it strange how pillowz fell for an egomaniac like hatz. perhaps christianity played a part in it? Yeah. Everyone who knows Dave thinks of him as a God-bothering ego case! 🤣 Seriously though... Dave and Carolyn had literally dozens of friends in common IRL before they ever met. I think they were a couple before he introduced her to BCB. Anyhow - those two were made for each other. The sweetest possible humans.

good to know.
obviously, most of us only know hatz from his board persona, which is a disturbing vision.

Dave can confirm or deny.

It’s funny - I see Quaco in FB discussions with people I’ve known for thirty years... and he goes back with them just as far. So I dunno? Is that a BCB thing?

I think you guys just ran in the same venn diagrams of music making and affiliations.

I wished Toby a happy birthday for three or four consecutive years on Facebook - no comment, not even an acknowledgement. If you ignored someone who made the effort to extend those kind of wishes 'in real life', you'd be regarded as ignorant. So it's clear he doesn't see any friendship forged online as real! There is a difference between an online and a physical connection. If you were in London, or were planning to be, I'd meet up with you and have a drink (if you wanted to, obviously). Same with Dougie or Geraint, who I have always enjoyed chatting to at great length at various Jollies. There is no doubt that receiving birthday wishes etc online is nice, although I've never acknowledged them individually. I'm one of those awful types who goes in for the post-birthday "thanks for all the birthday wishes yesterday" to elicit a further round of wishes and because obviously I've got better things to do on my birthday than go on Facebook yeah yeah like I don't know actually..

I'm the same way, if I have the time, I'll do some individual thanks, but usually I do social media in ebbs and flows - sometimes I pay attention, sometimes I don't.

It is a really lovely thing, knowing that so many people feel connected enough to take a moment to reach out to me. Having a way to give a moment back to each of them is one of the few unequivocal pleasures of the social networking era.
