How many message boards are you a member of? 4: Here, BCB, imdb 2.1 and RYM..Only really active on this one, though..Also a FB group of former imdb misfits.. I forgot about imdb 2.1, I only log in there every other week these days, the music board is a disaster. I post more on the books board there.

good to know. obviously, most of us only know hatz from his board persona, which is a disturbing vision. Try spending two months in a van with the guy. So you're basically here because of Stockholm syndrome?

Whatever it takes!
I'm only presently active here and BCB - I pop into BCB now & then, have a look around, associate some words, pass a few bad checks... I'm pretty sure I signed up on Rate the Music a LONG time ago when I was being relentlessly trolled on a long gone music board. I never really kept up with it. Do F.book & twitter count? I keep a hand in. I'm tired of people jumping down my throat on F.book so I've been keeping it pretty light. that's probably why I'm such a dick on here. Twitter seems grumpy most of the time but I follow some good people there - see some good links to articles both places so I check 'em out pretty much daily.
certain boards just have the Whammy on me or something. IMDB,, hoffman, rtm, others I sign up and just have a great big pain in the ass every time I try to post something. I give up after a while.
ease of use - that's what I look for in a message board.
present company excluded, all the boards I really like seem to disappear like the dinosaurs. Angry World Forum, Movie Morlocks, as soon as I seem to "find my voice" those places are gone. therefore I stopped looking for my voice.

Your Facebook posts are pretty benign. Who would get angry at those things unless they were really trying?

some of them are very trying.
I've been minding my Peas & Cues. I've had friends and family close the Iron Door on me because of Facebook opinions. I think the set up used to be different. I think everything I "liked" would show in their feeds then they would get all mad that I was "shoving my opinions down their throats". Many bloggers I used to follow on the internet I follow on Facebook now. If they write something worth regarding I give it a "like". well, thank God that seems to have changed. the only "opinion" stuff that seems to rankle people nowadays is the stuff I put on my wall myself. while that's a better deal all around, I really hate when people I like get into it with each other in my feed. I feel like a bad host or something. still, it's all subject to your whims - that's what I like about it. I am glad that whole "stop shoving your opinions down my throat" problem seems to have passed for now. I've got Preludin for when I feel like shoving my opinions down other people's throats.

Because a few of our former associates are on there, I always hope the Music Board will spring into action, but it never quite materializes.. who, for instance. Anyone who might like it here? In the past, I've mentioned this board on imdb 2.1 (Former imdbers include: Dr.Blade, NJtoTX, ASS_9, Lovecraft, Tekpop, Dr Krippen, Fox in the Snow, Bravomailer, Nogbad and, Rob, of course, who isn't coming back) and the FB imdb crypt (Turk, Kelsey and others) and nobody took the bait.. It's been a while, so I can put the feelers back out if you wish..

In 2000 I joined a techno forum that has been the source of my friendship network for 20 years. I guess it's like BCB is to people like Griff, Slider et al. A lot of us lived in London and so around 2001 or 2002, one would go out to a club night and inevitably meet about 5-20 people who also were part of the forum on a night out. On some, it would be like a massive Jolly in a club, with about 40 or 50 in attendance. In 2003 we did a "play 3 records" night where you could just play what you want in a pub that we hired out. Reckon there must have been at least 60 of us there - it got extremely silly and was probably the zenith of it all. The forums changed, but the people on them didn't - we went through 3 iterations before finding one that was ours as it were.
This was for about 10 years before most of us got married and started families. It is notable for a few couples my age and younger who aren't having children as well. The forum was dying by 2010 anyway, not helped by the advent of social media. At the start of the Pandemic a few of us resurrected the forum in the format of Slack, which is a project management style work etc app that you can create channels etc for. It had its moments but most people now complain of "too much bandwidth" to maintain - i.e going on various social media channels, also whilst having young families, jobs that are mostly online. We've had a few Zoom chats as well, but the burning feeling is getting back to meeting people physically, which I guess we can hope for in the summer.
I've never joined any other forums with the same intensity as BCB or the other one - I don't think I could spread myself so thinly to be honest. Now I just pretty much post on this one alone - BCB is pretty dead now and I've lost interest in chatting about music as well, there's just little to nothing I really want to say of any worth.
I do lurk on LSE which is a share/markets site, but have never posted

Yeah. Everyone who knows Dave thinks of him as a God-bothering ego case! 🤣 Seriously though... Dave and Carolyn had literally dozens of friends in common IRL before they ever met. I think they were a couple before he introduced her to BCB. Anyhow - those two were made for each other. The sweetest possible humans. I think it was Quaco that ostensibly set them up. Dave can confirm or deny. No. I knew Dave from here and Carolyn from the scene, but didn't think to put them together. I think they might have met at a Syd Barrett tribute show that zoomboogity (Richard) put together than I did play at.

I miss zoomboogity. There wasn’t an obscure old movie reference that got past that guy. he caught ‘em all.

He still owes me for a Thai meal at a restaurant with Anna, Dave and I after Hardly Strictly Bluegrass. He never said anything about not having money until the check came and after ordering the most food out of any of us. I am fairly positive I'm not the only one that happened to. He seemed pretty skilled at the art.
