There was a feral family living in our yard and my dad eventually got them rounded up and took them to the animal shelter. When we first got our house there were all sorts of feral cats hanging around the neighbourhood, and one female kept having litters of kittens that would always find their way into our backyard. They almost always had respiratory infections, so we'd bundle them off to the animal shelter and then do it again when the next litter came along. Eventually, perhaps because we'd always get rid of any new litters of kittens that came along, the feral cats all disappeared, and I haven't seen one in our neighbourhood for at least 15 years.

Apparently they do it to stop any rival spreading its gene pool and to bring the female back on heat quicker. I haven't seen my wife so upset for donkeys, she loved them so much, three weeks old and their eyes had just opened . We feel bad because we never noticed him coming in. Nature is cruel to witness sometimes. That is awful. Terrible mate. Give your wife a hug from me. x

This is mama the cat who lost her kittens. She attacked the Tom cat that killed her babies last night. I don't know what happens if she produces milk but has no babies , does anyone know ?

Ah shit Jimmy, that is just awful. Nature can be so cruel at times. Male lions do the same thing; when a new male runs off the old male, he will often try to kill any remaining cubs so that the females will come back into heat quicker and he can procreate faster. Awful thing to happen to you, feel for you and your wife, man.

Unfortunately she keeps going to the bedroom door and calling out for kittens that are no longer there. I know it's nature( I worked on a farm for eight years) but it is hard to stomach that this Tom cat did this.

It's just one minute there is all this tiny wriggling life and the next they are lying there lifeless. All that innocence and beauty gone.

Unbelievable. We were talking to a near neighbour this afternoon. The Tom that killed our kittens (5) also killed theirs , seven of them! Meanwhile, our mama still goes into the bedroom and calls for he lost babies. She is also super clingy at the moment but that is ok.

I mean, I'm sure you don't want to go into details but it's a completely unfamiliar world to me. Will it be put down? Terrible, terrible thing to have happened. Must be heartbreaking for you to hear the mama calling for her kittens.

There was one really big Tom cat who no one fucked with but he got killed after being attacked by a dog we think. That left two. One of them was seemingly aggressive and the other a real cutie, always cuddling up to other cats in the boxes people leave out in the winter. He is the killer. Our neighbours say he just snuck in their house and they were shocked to see him walk out of their front door. They then found the kittens. We have gone over and over how he got in and we didn't see him. My wife was in the next room and I was outside when it happened. The door was shut to keep our baby kitten safe. It was only mama ( who was sitting on the settee) who alerted my wife by attacking him when he appeared near her after killing the kittens. It is distressing to see her pace the bedroom calling for them. As for the Tom , he really is a good looking cat (a sort of chunky British blue) and as I say a normally gentle way with him. He killed some Greek persons kittens, who knows what will happen. There is another queen due to give birth (feral) if they are not his he will kill them. To many tourists the sight of feral cats makes many think they don't care about them, however they never die of starvation. They tolerate them sleeping where they want. They do love kittens though. So Charles as we call him , may well disappear but I think he will be left alone. These incidents are what our little furry friends do in their feral state. It's different in the UK as there are less feral. Most people let their cats do what they want. I mean, what can the owner do? Apart from chop his balls off.
