the first one seemed very promising by virtue of that cool phase-shifty effect which it uses a lot & I can never get enough of. Then I listen to B which is right up my alley.
so, we start shaving points. I like Hip-Hop just fine but personally I don't think I should need a lyric sheet. demerits for lack of annunciation. you got something to say or you're too cool to care? pick a lane. the other might run out of gas before it's over but not by much. a close call but a solid one.

It be reggae toasting, no? I find a JA accent impenetrable, but then again, I'm deaf.

Nothing personal, A, but that era of jazz fusion - fused with R&B rather than fretwankery, in other words - is just so much in the old proverbial wheelhouse that I gotta vote for B here.
I may eventually run out of new things to be delighted by in that area, but it hasn't happened yet.

I like Hip-Hop just fine but personally I don't think I should need a lyric sheet. demerits for lack of annunciation. and demerits to YOU because the word is enunciation!I liked that Roots Manuva thing a lot. The backing worked well with the vocal, some cool shifting patterns. Not keen on Roy Ayers and that kind of thing really. In FACT.... I think it's RUBBISHE

Roots Manuva is UK hip hop I don't like. I get that they're trying to do their own thing separate from American hip hop, but lot's of the electronica stuff they incorporate doesn't work for me.
I like Roy Ayers, so there.

Liked both, Manuva is very forward thinking
B
is the effortless funkiness of back in the day that today just saying the word funky alot is suppose to conjure. It is the foundation upon which Manuva stands.

Took a few listens, but the Root Manuva backing music grows on you after awhile..The vibe is interesting..The Ayers track sounds pretty much the same as most of that era's funky jazz, R&B fusion, so nothing really special..Vote A

A is a million miles from the music i like. it doesn't connect with me on any level and if i were to hear it playing somewhere i would actively seek to exit the premises.
i don't mind the roy ayers track and i like hearing the vibraphone on jazz records, so an easy win for:

Oh really good start. Both very much in my HOUSE of WHEEL; in fact, i've played both these albums over the last few of months. Maybe it comes down to which is the more unusual or 'braver' choice, and for mine it is A.
