I was more interested in the idea that rock music is soon going to be seen as something strange and old, like wearing armour, or getting up to change channels, than the old 'rock is dead' discussion which we have every few months. you see, I don't really have a problem with any of that.
ROCK AND ROLL!!!!!!

I would add lack of working class men pursing a career in music these days as a contributing factor too. Black Sabbath and metal came from the industrial north...a million and one garage bands thrashing away...the Stooges in Detroit etc. West Midlands. Metal was birthed in Brum and was never a dominant force in that London. I always think of it as the North. My mistake. But industrial. Did rock have a relationship with that world? Loud, aggressive, primitive music. There's a quote from Iggy (I've been told) about being influenced by the tyrannical sound of the machines in the factories...the relentless machine beat (No Fun).

I'm of two minds here. one mind - my smaller mind - the one I take out to pee and gets me in trouble - that mind thinks who gives a shit? I mean, what's more rock and roll than not giving a shit what anybody thinks about all that stuff?
the slightly larger, more caffeinated brain enjoys this familiar discussion and won't miss an opportunity to make some familiar points.
point one: sex. sex is still good when you're old but it's different.
point two: compare music to sex. still good. different.
point three: "the thrill of the new" can still come around or be prolonged through fetishes or other means.
I still like new music and I still get a thrill up my leg though less often and easier to conceal in mixed company. yeah, rock looks stupid right now depending on where you look. a couple years back BIG false eyelashes looked really stupid. they've been looking pretty good lately.
"never say never" except G. will never admit rock can hit the same pleasure centers that other things can. they are HIS pleasure centers so I'll defer to him in this.

Stevie Wonder tells G he's not black enough, Dougie that his penis is too small, and John that David had no soul.

Of course I can admit that...I'm just providing a counter balance in reminding some that rock was never quite the all conquering behemoth, at least in Britain, that they assume it to be.

Tony Iommi and no doiubt the rest of the Sabs, too.
