This was good. The interviewee doesn't dismiss climate change, but instead says that the way that the data is being presented to us is problematic and that some climate scientists aren't using this correctly. The guy is a moron who cleverly picked out some statistics that suit his narrative. Less people will die. Based on global warming. First of all, we don't need more people and second if we do, what about crops that cannot cope with extra heat, or salt water once seas and ocean levels rise and come seeping onto current shores. I liked him better when was just playing tennis.

What goes on? I'm not sure what point is being made here. I think he talks about Minnie challenging Googs from time to time. Fail to see the relevance to this thread, but anyway we should preserve this thread for more important things.

The one subject no-one mentions with climate change is overpopulation. That is the simple fact - cut the population and the burden on food production and resources, which drives deforestation et al, would be significantly reduced. But you cannot in any way stop the urge to reproduce without truly tragic consequences. I am of the belief that an overtly green government, of which there are none yet, would look at this in a serious way, which would be totalitarian in nature. What do you think is the best way to curb population growth?

I was about to say 'look to China' but haven't they eased off on that one (or was it two) child policy?

I'm fairly certain that that could be classified as "totalitarian".

What do you think is the best way to curb population growth? Economic prosperity. Generally, the more prosperous people are, the less children they have. That is widely observed amongst all western nations. Whether that can be ascertained across all developing countries is more difficult to say, but I would hazard a guess that it is probably true. Asian countries that have improved economically in the last 30 years are seeing a drop in their birth rate. Some countries are on the verge of a decline in birth rates, of which, Japan, being one of the most densely populated countries, seems to be in a very steep decline. It may very well be that these things occur naturally- I know of several people my age and younger who made a conscious decision not to have children. One population scientist has predicted that it will hit around 9 billion and then drop off significantly.

I suppose it does beg the question: how can that be accomplished, especially in states that are already authoritarian in nature?

I was about to say 'look to China' but haven't they eased off on that one (or was it two) child policy? In 2016 they changed the one to a two-child policy. In May this year they changed that to a three-child policy., following a steep drop in births in 2020 (by -18%)

I do worry about some kind of eco-fascism emerging. When you look at something like China's social credit system it's obvious the tech means are there to enforce a system that could be used to "save the planet" and all this talk of "the great reset" makes my arse tighten a bit. Something feels wrong to me. It feels like a perfect storm somehow...covid, tech, media, big gov, scientists.
I am not convinced the scientific models are reliable in their predictions at all and I do think there is a motivation for the scientific community to paint a more apocalyptic picture.

I do worry about some kind of eco-fascism emerging. I think there are so many kinds of fascism that are way more likely to take root before that happens. Right here, in my own back yard it's no exaggeration to say that a profound "white power" sort of thing has taken root in one of our two major political parties. they have stopped pussy footing around and it appears to be catching on.
in fact, if Fascism was a 31 Flavors sort of thing I might choose a kind of eco-fascism over this other kind. I'd rather have Jamoca Almond Fudge but at least an eco-fascism would be concerned (at least on it's surface) with something more constructive than racial purity.
