Give everyone a free cat as a child substitute. don't the chinese eat cats? If breeding cats is what it takes to increase global economic prosperity, that fact that some people will eat them can only be a positive.

I am not convinced the scientific models are reliable in their predictions at all and I do think there is a motivation for the scientific community to paint a more apocalyptic picture. ...based on ...? Models are notoriously complex with so many factors, variables and assumptions I am sceptical of their accuracy, especially over longer term predictions: 30, 40, 50, 60 etc years from now. There is an element of faith here, faith in the scientists and faith in their modelling that I am wary of. Scientists are human beings like everyone else and they are therefore prone to the same flaws and bullshit we are. Some seem to believe they would never exaggerate or have biases that could influence their modelling forecasts etc like they are noble and pure but they are aren't.

It could be better or could be worse. I certainly feel in my lifetime that there is a noticeable difference. Two medicanes and two severe heatwaves in Greece in the last two years were nature at it's worst for people. It was noticeable in the UK also. It could also be part of a natural cycle. The thing is if we do things that lower pollution and the massive waste and damage we create it is a good thing to do.

The distrust of scientists above seems more like a leap of faith! It doesn't seem to be based on scientific evidence.

i've seen more anti science rhetoric in the last few years than I ever have. I guess we'd better get used to it.

Do you think there really was a hole in the ozone layer? There was, and it closed thanks to the banning of CFCs (simplistic explanation, but that's basically it)

I do worry about some kind of eco-fascism emerging. I think there are so many kinds of fascism that are way more likely to take root before that happens. Right here, in my own back yard it's no exaggeration to say that a profound "white power" sort of thing has taken root in one of our two major political parties. they have stopped pussy footing around and it appears to be catching on.
in fact, if Fascism was a 31 Flavors sort of thing I might choose a kind of eco-fascism over this other kind. I'd rather have Jamoca Almond Fudge but at least an eco-fascism would be concerned (at least on it's surface) with something more constructive than racial purity.
I for one welcome our Fascist overlords (whoever the fuck they are) www.google.co.uk/amp/s/amp.cnn.com/cnn/2021/11/03/politics/winsome-sears-virginia-lieutenant-governor-race/index.html

Scientists individually considered are surely flawed. But their collective conclusions and methods are the closest to truth that we can get.

I thought the science was that the polar vortex was at the right temperature at the right time? The banning helped but it can still naturally form once a year.
