Did anyone see Killing Eve tonight?

I'll take that as a 'no', then.
C5 have shown the Palin documentary on North Korea again, but with a nice new introduction from MP in which he expresses regret that his travelling has been put on hold for a while. He's especially sad that he won't be able to go back to Pyongyang, because he feels connections were made and the door was opened just a little bit for him.
The doc was shown in one go, with added footage. It's really worth a watch - Palin's cautious, polite approach really works.

Did anyone see Killing Eve tonight? Thought it was this evening. I really enjoyed the Mother Russia episode.

I'm really enjoying State of Happiness on BBC4. There's a real depth to it. It reminds me a lot of Our Friends in the North.

Killing Eve is a bit dull now. The Russian episode was so dull. I want more imaginative murders.

I only watch it because of Jodie Comer. And she's like a comedy killer anyway.

It's interesting how your appreciation for things changes as you get older. I first watched and loved MPFC when I was 15, and I must have seen some of these sketches 10s of times. Now? I watch and appreciate the talent rather than laugh my socks off. Isn't that rubbish? I hate getting old. Anyway - started this (series 2) last night, and I did get a few big laughs out of the first one. It's actually one of the best episodes because of Ethel The Frog - the whole Dinsdale/Piranha Brothers madness. It's pure class, some of the most inventive and brilliantly performed comedy ever made (did the Pythons have any actual professional training?). And those lines about nailing someone's head to a coffee table are always funny. Cleese especially is on fire. He was the best thing about it, wasn't he? He's just so damned good at playing these authority types - the demeanour, the accent, the energy, the mad stare. I suppose if you're looking for what dates it, it would be the 'oooh ducky I love your pinafore' prancing, which I'd call camp rather than 'homophobic' or whatever, but there's a fair bit of it in this one. It just doesn't look very funny today. But - whatever. A minor complaint. If you're interested in buying these new Blu-rays, by the way, they're really nicely packaged and upgraded with excellent episode guides. I don't always bother looking at those kinds of extras, but this book is full of things I didn't know. Amazon has series 2 for £21, the others are more expensive.

So you're all outside gardening, then.
Or listening to opera.

I'm watching reruns of Frasier and Law & Order SVU, and my favourite programme is Gardener's World. I cried when I read about Nigel. As you can tell from the previous two sentences, I have nothing useful or entertaining to say about television. Sorry.
PS fuck opera

I enjoyed watching Portrait Artist of the Year today. With the sound down. Yesterday, actually, too. Think that'll become a mid-afternoon habit.

I've seen all but the last episode of "Mrs. America". I was surprised to see that the directors and writers are women. how fucked up am I that I was surprised by that?
Sarah Paulson's character is a composite. unlike most other speaking roles, she isn't based on an actual person. She is an acolyte of Schlafly but the most recent episode uses the actor's reactive gifts in a very clever way. She attends the famous Woman's conference in Houston but is there as a spoiler. when she arrives she believes herself to be opposed to everything the woman's movement wants and stands for. by the end of the episode she has had a change of heart. she is still at Schlafly's side but you can tell that being among women focused on equality goals has had an effect on her. it's not as clear cut & simple as she thought. I think it's good story telling that it's not presented as being clear cut.

I'll dump everything here:
TV
started second season of The Crown - didn't knock me out but I think it'll get better. Claire Foy actually looked HOT in the opening scene in the bed. I'm sure that was the director's intention - to show us Lizzie was a bit of a looker back in the 50s
almost done with Normal People - it's killing me, best TV of 2020
more Inbetweeners and Friday Night Dinner - loving both - big chuckles
that new Ricky Tomlinson thing where he tours the north with whatsisface from the Royle Family - it's OK
the reruns of Andrew Marr's History of Modern Britain - excellent
tried again with the old Alan Partridge shows - still not keen, mostly 'cos the verbal stuff is just annoying
and various US chat shows - Bill Maher, Jimmy Fallon et al
films
The Killing Of A Chinese Bookie - first half great, second half drawn-out. Gazzara great. Enjoyed the commentary (Bogdanovich and Al Ruban)
Double Indemnity - good
Pierrot Le Fou - loved it
Brief Encounter - a perfect film! I was knocked out, a big surprise
