Fuck man, i don't think that attitude gets anyone anywhere on every topic ever. I still think you were OTT invoking the likes of the Ukraine and slavery over a soft call on facebook for people to meet in the middle. Though youse guys do everything OTT. Good luck with that yanksville.

“The middle” is a bad frame. It’s a virtue held by lazy thinkers. I think the folks who espouse it really intend to endorse pluralism. Pluralism doesn’t seek to find an elusive middle way, but it accepts the idea that we’re going to have to find a way forward without necessarily agreeing on everything.
Worse than the split-the-baby-down-the-middle falseness of centrism is the prospect of any particular ideological ‘side’ winning. There’s an interesting book by a guy named James Carse called “Finite and Infinite Games.” The premise is that there are games that you play until someone wins (say checkers), and games that you play infinitely (you don’t disband the Yankees and Mets at the end of a baseball season - the game goes on). Politics is meant to be an infinite game. You win some, you lose some. We limp forward into the future with nobody getting exactly what they want, but nobody having to live fully under someone else’s thumb either.
The problem now is that modern politics (at least here in America) is now being played as a finite game. We can all identify our own signposts about when that started to happen. For me, I think McConnell’s denial of hearings for Merrick Garland’s Supreme Court bid was a point of no return. Regardless… if we accept the idea that we’re now playing a finite game, we have to ask ourselves what it is going to look like when the game ends. What comes after?
So no… I don’t think the world needs more ‘middle people.’ But the world DOES badly need more pluralists.

Shit like this passes instead of failing. gerrymandering was just the beginning. IMO Republicans are openly seeking the right to permanently move all goal posts so they always win and are always ahead regardless of what the people who live in their districts want.
they seek a rigged game where they are always the winner. they are just getting started.

I will certainly meet you in the middle when it comes to picking a restaurant to eat and having to listen to the Mighty Radiohead in your car's CD player on the way there if you're driving, but not on important stuff. That's what she was talking about.
