Kay is funny and warm but it’s a kind of humour that some get snobby about it. Peter Kay can be brilliant, but he's really lazy, recycles material from one tour to the next, even when there's 5 years between tours. Did I ever mention that my wife had a fire safety demonstration once from the Keith Laird who sued him for his 'Keith Lard' bit on Phoenix Nights?

He does come across as all comedy after a certain date is shit. He sure doesn't like yank comedians. Especially the ones that used to swallow the mic and make loud jarring noises and think it's funny. I agree with him on that. That's why i'm not fully sold on the likes of Hicks. I know that can be sacrilege to some people.

People don't tend to be naturally funny, do they? I wonder if, as we grow older and face more responsibilities and more worries, we tend to be less likely to make people laugh. Also we tend to get the rough edges knocked off us, we end up conforming a bit more. I remember when I was a kid, and still when I was a student, you'd meet people regularly who were just funny. Now the folk I work with are friendly enough, but rarely actually funny. I suspect as people grow older many, not all obviously, compartmentalise it, so they'll be funny with their best mate but not with a co-worker necessarily. I always try, as do my colleagues to have a laugh while at work. Sometimes because it can be challenging and it helps to alleviate stress, but at other times we recognise the humour right under our noses with the kids we support. I've met a few people who are naturally funny and are always up for a laugh. One was that lad Pottsy (David Potts) who played with Peter Hook in Revenge and Monaco and is now on a cushy number playing all over with Peter Hook and the Light ( I tell him he's on a cushy number when I see him in Aldi, and he knows he is..) I worked with him at Our Price round the time they were doing the Monaco album, so he was only part time. I guess he was feeling pretty good about life so never had to take things too seriously, always had a daft smirk on his face and was genuinely hilarious when he got going, winding customers up, doing silly voices when answering the phone... I remember thinking that he had the right attitude to life, having been a bit of a troubled young man not long before. I started to lighten up a fair bit round about then I use the word 'daft' quite a bit on here, I've noticed and I don't know how it translates to our US friends or even people from different parts of the UK, but it's a quality my paternal Grandmother had in spades and it seems to have rubbed off on my sister and I. Just that irreverent, cheeky, absurd, outlandish, spontaneous thing when you're interacting with shop staff or whatever. I do it a lot. Just today, I was sat in a boring training session, round a table with four women I'd never met before. When talk turned to the terrible summer we've had. I assured them while indignantly tapping the table with my finger that I had 'written a strongly worded letter to Ian Mcgaskill and that lot.." Not the greatest gag ever, but it kinda breaks the ice. Two of the women laughed and the other two were probably thinking 'Who's this fucking idiot and who is Ian Mcgaskill?" But I'll carry on like this, life's too short not to piss about and have a laugh whenever you can.

That tv gig i seen of his, he mentioned and lamented comedians that were starting when he was that gave up. He made it sound like they were better that what was around. I remember thinking if they were watching and heard this, ware they thinking "what if?".

Didn't know if it belonged or was needed at all. I took a risk.
