Fred Hughes didn't release all that much, but what he did do was all pretty great. This one in particular is a big personal favourite. A Eugene Record and Carl Davis production. Often with Chicago Soul, as Loveless pointed out earlier, it's a case of 'follow the names'. Great singer, G. Just couldn't get his career going further in terms of nationwide fame after the brilliant 'Oo Wee Baby' on Vee-Jay, one of my favourite mid-60s soul singles, but as you say he made some great singles on Brunswick as well as Exodus, a short-lived Vee-Jay spinoff. Here's one i love, 'I Keep Tryin''... I have a sneaky feeling this might have been recorded in LA, forgive me if it was.

Overshadowed by the Moonglows and Flamingos, The Dells were good value for their third place. They would be back in the ’60s and ’70s as a harder-edged R&B vocal group, but this sound from 1956 was their peak as a doo-wop band
Dreamy horn solo, too

Lovely bit of pop soul vocalising on a Curtis Mayfield tune

I don't believe we've had this classic, for shame. 2-and-a-half mins of pure 60s Chicago groove.
