Time to celebrate my favourite mini sub-genre. I'm in awe of the talents that came out of Chicago in the 50s,60s and 70s - Curtis Mayfield, Carl Davis, Johnny Pate, Charles Stepney, Leroy Hutson, Eugene Record and so many more. And their collaborations and prolificy has produced such a deep well. I propose people post a track a day to celebrate the scene. It can be anything from 50s doowop to 70s funk, and you can bring in blues and jazz (at least of the soul jazz variety) because that's part of the story too.
We'll kick off with my favourite Jackie Wilson track, written and produced by Carl Davis. Can you believe this was only a b side?

I've been bingeing on the Cadet Records wing of this shit for the better part of a year now, and...what can I even say about it?
Such an amazing moment in music - and an improbable convergence of all of these really unique and special talents.

They were a family act of course. They went a bit too far when they recruited Kubie in the band though...he was three years old!

Damn, one a day just isn't enough! Listening to those Junior Wells and YHU tracks makes me want to post my own faves by them. But I will hold fire, and today pick one of my favourite deep cuts by the legend Gene Chandler...
