Do you spend time talking about the love of your life by mentioning the fact that one eye was slightly smaller than the other? Well...DO YA? No, but if I had a couple of kids I'd probably say things like 'they're both sweethearts but Bingo can be a bit insensitive at times and Bongo isn't eating a varied enough diet' Or, Dweezil didn't show much promise at infants but got it together in senior school before blowing it all at uni Moon unit has their heart in the right place but tends to overreach. Diva suffers because Dweez and Moon don't allow Diva to join in, which is a shame. While Ahmet just wants to play.

You've been saying the same thing since 2006! And nothing I've said above (which is seemingly what you think we're reluctant to express) is new - I've made every point above multiple times down through the years.
I've certainly been accused of wearing Beatle-goggles - so many times it's become an in-joke - but I've never felt it to be true.
If you're interested, I can certainly introduce you to some Beatle-worshippers in the "real world" If you think we're too 'rose colored glasses'...

There are no real world Beatles fans. Their world ended in 1970.

There are objective standards to art but it doesn't make sense to invoke them on this argument. They're two different bands of more or less the same weight. The Beatles were hardly great musicians themselves, they had to draft in others to play the more technical stuff. If you were comparing them with, say, Beat Happening or something like that, then sure.
Again, it is claimed that pop sesnisibility puts the Beatles ahead of this one. However: Sunday Morning, Femme Fatale, There She Goes, Here She Comes Now are pop songs as good as anything the Beatles wrote. Did the Beatles ever have a universally grabbing lyric such as "it's just the wasted years so close behind"? That's not a rhetorical question, I'm trying to think. Maybe there's something on In My Life that comes close.
It is just personal preference here. The Beatles were a great singles band, around half of every album is skippable. But even if the Velvets had retired after the debut they'd still win this one for me.

An entertaining one but a gobshite nevertheless.

Yep, a born self-promoter and raconteur, who has always known how and when to say things. Accordingly, statements like that should be taken with a requisite grain or two of salt.

At the same time, they weren't terrible (except for Ringo) but they didn't set the world alight with their instrument playing?

McCartney is regarded as one of the best and most innovative bassists of his generation. You are right to a degree though. They weren't flashy players who built their reputation on their instrumental prowess. They weren't Cream.
